Obama gets blocked on recess appointments.

September 30, 2010

Pondering ObamaImagine you are President of the United States and everything is going great.  You got your agenda, you’re gonna save America and bring it back from the brink of the worst financial disaster since the last inept democrat president, the only problem, this pesky group of folks called Congress keep getting in the way.

Yeah, they passed your legislation, but not exactly how you wanted it.  They completely moved out of the way and let you appoint all those “czars” for your special executive regulatory offices.  Heck, they even let you have a Consumer Protection Bureau established in the Federal Reserve so that Congress can’t have oversight on it.

So what’s this news story I just heard about?  Congress is going to have pro-forma sessions over the upcoming 2 month recess just so you can’t appoint all your people through the backdoor.  Damn, that’s not fair!  I mean seriously, Congress can’t just go and pull something like that on you.  How are you supposed to get anything done with all this obstructionism going on?

I feel sorry for you Mr. President.  Truly, you are the greatest president the universe has ever seen, but you could be even better if Congress would stop checking your power.   Like that’s their job or something.

Eliminating Recess Appointments is on my list of necessary Constitutional Amendments. The idea was invented in a very different time with much slower modes of travel and communication.

I completely agree. Coupled with that, we could close a lot of the unnecessary positions that need to be appointed in the first place.

After reading a little more about this subject, my original take was a little off. Apparently, Harry Reid is holding the pro-forma sessions so that Obama’s current recess appointments will not expire. I thought something seemed a little odd when I first posted about this. A little too commonsense for Democrats to actually be exerting their checks on the executive.
