Swiss Village – Pay Your Dog Tax or Fido Gets It –

Apparently the Swiss are having trouble collecting taxes.  Its almost like people universally don’t like to pay them, even when they live in a socialist country that supposedly takes care of everything for you.  Damn ungrateful citizenry.

What tax are the Aryan super-brood refusing to pay?  A $50 dollar dog tax, presumably so the government can…um…let you dog live?  The article doesn’t detail what said tax is meant to cover, but it does suggest what happens if you refuse to pay, Snooky-Wookems gets the axe.

Local official Pierre-Alain Nemitz says the move is part of an effort to reclaim hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes.

He says a law from 1904 allows the village to kill dogs if its owner does not pay the canine charge.

This is unconfirmed, but sources close to him say Michael Vick was questioning if Switzerland had a football league.

There is a silver lining to all this though, its not about punishing dogs, they are just the vehicle for a grander scheme, let’s allow Pierre to elaborate:

“This isn’t about a mass execution of dogs,” Nemitz said. “It’s meant to put pressure on people who don’t cooperate.”

So threats of death are the new way of “putting pressure” on an uncooperative citizenry?

You ready for some not so obvious irony?

Nemitz told the AP on Monday that authorities have received death threats since news of the plan got out.

Hmm, maybe its not about a mass-execution of authorities, just a way to put pressure on officials who don’t cooperate?

Ha-Ha – Love the last line. Funny how the government’s own words can often be used against themselves. “We have to pass the bill so we can find out what’s in it!” What an Idiot.

Yeah, I thought that was some delicious irony. =)
