Czech Republic facing doctor shortage

January 12, 2011

Health care minister appeals to doctors to stay –

The Czech Republic is facing a crisis of their own making.  They are running out of doctors.  Okay, that isn’t entirely accurate.  Let me try again.  They are running their doctors out.  Here is what has to say:

The Czech Republic’s health care minister is appealing to thousands of doctors to abandon a plan to quit their jobs at regional hospitals in protest of low salaries.

Damn greedy doctors.  How many we talking about here?

The Czech doctors union says some 3,800 doctors have handed in their resignations effective March 1. Major university clinics in Prague are not expected to be seriously affected but access to health care could be limited in regional hospitals if the doctors don’t change their minds.

Anyone want to guess what kind of health care system they have in the Czech Republic?  If you said state controlled, you deserve a cigar.  Here is a brief description according to

Healthcare (including dental treatment) is free to all citizens in the Czech Republic. It is provided through compulsory contributions to a state approved insurance fund. Healthcare costs here are well below the European average, yet standards are in line with some of the best health centres in Western Europe.

Isn’t it odd how compulsory contributions result in a “free” system?

I did find some interesting on this website, which might explain a provision of Obamacare: (my emphasis)

All Czech citizens, registered foreign residents and companies with a base in the country must make regular contributions. Students under 26, dependant children, old age pensioners and vulnerable groups like the disabled are exempt from payment.

There has to be some study out there that proves people under 26 are worthless.

Anyway, back to the bastard doctors that refuse to work for free (I wonder how the commies feel about these union employees standing up for their rights?), here is a final parting shot from

Critics, including President Vaclav Klaus, call the protest irresponsible.

Maybe not paying them enough is irresponsible?  Or…maybe if you guys tried a little good ole capitalism they could figure out how much they were actually worth on a free-market, instead of some arbitrary salary your “free” health care system dictates they should make.

How dare these doctors ask for more money than those that clean the bed pans. Fair is fair!

How much you want to bet the “hospital administrator” makes more than any doctor at the hospital?

And this just foreshadows what is going to happen here.
Don’t you just love the way they claim the healthcare system is free, yet they are all forced to pay into it?

Yeah, I should have made the connection to Obamacare more explicit, but that was my goal.

Its kind of like the “free” toaster they used to give away when you opened a bank account.

Put lefties in charge of Antarctica, and it’d soon be running out of ice.

“Isn’t it odd how compulsory contributions result in a “free” system?”

    HA! It certainly is.

You’ve been on fire lately, fleece

My wife’s son is a Surgeon in Prague. He has practiced for about 14 years, and by all accounts is VERY good at what he does.

He has, at times, held multiple positions at multiple hospitals to simply earn enough to survive.

His income is equal to about $1000 U.S. dollars per month. Let me ask how many of us could live on that? How many of us, after spending 12 years of medical school would STAND for that income.

The Czech Republic is stealing from the people “compulsory contributions” and padding thier own pockets. (Sound familiar – Social Security, Medicare, now ObamaCare.)

The problem here is that Entitlements look good on the surface and sometimes work for a while – till the government realizes they can use that money for other things – Then the PONZI Scheme catches up to them! Madoff received 150 year prison sentence. Know any government oficials that might qualify for the same?

Hey, thanks for visiting and for the excellent comment.

$1000 bucks for a 14 year practicing surgeon? That is absolutely ridiculous. I can only imagine how much other professions make cause it has to be crap for people to even want to be doctors.

I know a lot of politicians that should be bunking with Bernie.

    Thank you Colin,

I like your Blog. I just discovered it today and will continue using it! I especially like:

“I believe the Constitution of the United States is the single greatest document written by human hands; George Washington the greatest American and one of the world’s greatest generals; Ronald Reagan the greatest president; and bratwurst the greatest food.” Although and eventhough I like Reagan; I might view a couple others as greater!

      Oh come on, Bratwurst rocks!
