Lesbian expelled from college campus, LGBT groups amazingly silent

Student appeals expulsion over deviant relationship – Arab News.

The typical meme of the Muslim apologist is that the Koran embraces peace and tolerance (an obvious fact for those who haven’t read it) and that Muslims who do the opposite are not following the holy book, they are extremists and wackos who are making a volitional choice to go against the “true” nature of Islam.  That would be a satisfactory argument if these damn articles didn’t keep popping up all over the place.

This latest one is from Arab News.com, a Saudi Arabian based newspaper offered in English.  The first sign of things to come in the article is the headline:

Student appeals expulsion over deviant relationship

Hmm deviant, what was she doing?  Some weird animal sex acts, maybe some crazy S&M stuff, or perhaps something akin to Barney Franks’ apartment brothel?  Nope, she was just a lesbian.  Now I know what you defenders of the right for Islam to be tolerantly intolerant are thinking, “A lot of Christians believe homosexuality is deviant.”  For sure people in the West do, but the fact the term deviant is used to describe her sexual orientation in the headline of a major Saudi newspaper would be like the New York Times doing the equivalent over here – anybody see that happening any time soon?

The gist of the article is about how the girl had a lesbian relationship with her supervisor, and once it was discovered, she was booted from the university.  Again, I would like to point out, if this happened in Christian America (right?  we are a supposed Christian theocracy right lefty nutjobs) the ACLU, NOW, and every other LGBT group out there would be demanding the heads of everyone involved in the expulsion, but not in Saudi Arabia.  Let’s see what an official of the school had to say:

Abdul Qader Tankal, supervisor of safety and security at King Abdulaziz University, said the committee should have dealt with the issue more sensibly and provided the girl with necessary counseling with the help of educators and psychologists.

Ahh, see.  She just needed counseling – how does that make you feel endorsers of the homosexuality gene?  See, if she had proper counseling and psychological help, she could overcome this deviant behavior and be like a normal person.  Got that LGBT, your behavior is abnormal, according to Saudi officials.

Maybe I am reading too much into that quote, let’s try another:

“When we observed a few cases in our university we dealt with them by providing necessary counseling. We also hold a number of lectures and other programs to protect girls from having such deviant relationships,” he said.

Okay, maybe I didn’t.  Any word on this from any LGBT groups?  The silence is deafening.

Just so you don’t think his is just the stance of the holier than thou officials in Saudi society, lets look at one of the comments to the article shall we?

From Dr. Aisha – Both should be executed for homosexuality if they admit!

Not just tolerant, but peaceful as well.  That’s okay, I am sure some Western apologist has a good answer for all this, and I am sure the lesbos at Code Pink endorse this stance (not the execution but the expulsion) also.

My point is not to point out the backwards nature of a certain Muslim culture, a culture that has THE holiest relic in Islam within their borders, a culture many consider the exemplar of an Islamic country, a culture that embraces Sharia and its many restrictions.  My point is to show that it is not a small group of people who are extremists and aren’t real followers of the “true” Islam.  If that is the case, there are a ton of countries and millions of people who seem to get it wrong.  Its obvious someone is not understanding what Islam is really all about, somehow I don’t think it is Saudi Arabia.

    Good find!
Strange how LGBT groups are not too terribly interested in the plight of homosexuals in the Arab world.
A dirty little Saudi secret is that so many of the men in that gender segregated society *are* homosexual. There was a very good feature on it in the Atlantic four years ago:

Interesting article. I have heard anecdotes about the Gitmo detainees and their homosexual proclivities, so, this sort of confirms the rumors, lol.

    Are not the LGBTs leftists?

Never expect logical thinking from Leftists.

Yeah, but some consistency would be nice…or solidarity…or human decency. Oh well…

It is so easy to be a Progressive. If it doesn’t fit your agenda, it doesn’t exist. You don’t discuss it, you don’t acknowledge that it exists, so you can’t be called to account for it. Life is great in your little clamshells. Don’t spoil the fantasy with reality.

That about sums it up. You forgot, if a progressive can’t ignore an issue, then just attack the messenger.

Good find, yes. The Left always seems to “ignore” how so many gays and women were liberated in Iraq and Afghanistan and what would have happened to them had their oppressive governments continued. Same reason the Left doesn’t stick up for Sarah Palin.

Thanks. They still hang gay men in Iran, funny how you don’t have marches similar to the “Free Tibet” marches from a few years ago regarding that practice.
