Real torture is not a progressive talking point

July 7, 2011

Just like Representative Sheila Jackson Lee’s implied accusation of racism in the naming of hurricanes belittles and marginalizes true acts of racism, so does calling America’s current favored method of interrogation, waterboarding, “torture” belittle and marginalize true acts of torture.

In the mind of the typical American, torture has become something of a bygone age, a medieval instrument of information extraction involving hot-pokers, boiling oil and the Iron Maiden.  We don’t think of torture as something civilized governments condone, let alone administer, so the progressive mantra of “torture” being hurled incessantly at America (well not so much post-Bush…curious) is a little disingenuous at best.  Especially when we read about true acts of torture.

In this article in the Guardian titled Fears grow for lawyer of woman in Iran stoning case we are unfortunately treated to the horrific treatment said lawyer in article’s title is receiving in prison.  In a letter he smuggled out of the prison, he had this to say of his ordeals:

“All the signs of torture remain on my body … I have been burned by approximately 60 cigarettes on my legs, testicles and feet (5 cigarettes there). I am only given one meal a day, in the morning; once it was a small piece of cheese, another time, three dates.

“My teeth have been almost completely broken by blows with boots, as has my nose, which bleeds permanently. At midnight, in cold weather, I was soaked with a fire hose and left, with hands and feet bound, in the courtyard until four in the morning, when I was taken to be interrogated.”

Any comments from the progressive media?

Compare that with the Ritz-Carlton Cuba we are running for our suspects of actual heinous crimes (not talking to the press, as in this lawyer’s case) and you can see that characterizing America’s treatment of anyone as torture is fantasy.

I am all for abolishing torture when it rears its ugly head, but lets focus our efforts where real torture is happening, and stop the politically motivated hectoring of America.

the progressives/regressives prefer to give aid and comfort to the enemy. It’s their way of balancing the power of the big nasty United States against the poor little terrorist.

Why not just accept that America rocks and stop trying to tear us down all the time?

Now that would be a novel concept for the left but they gain power from the misery of others and because of this they must continually tell us how miserable the country is.

If it doesn’t support their premise or cause, it doesn’t exist. Just like the media’s failure to report on any of the gaffes made by Obama (57 states, bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor, 10,000 people that died in Kansas storms, ATMs cause unemployment, botches Medal of Honor recipient, Navy “corpseman,” etc, etc, etc) or any other Democrat (asking a wheelchair-bound disabled vet to stand and be recognized, completely ignoring “sheets” Byrd’s history, Harry Reid’s description of Obama as “light skinned” and “with no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one,” etc, etc, etc.) but they are oh so quick to plaster the headlines if Palin, Bachmann, or any other conservative even misspeaks. Is it any wonder that people might think that the liberal, left-wing are our betters, when the majority of the public gets their news from the MSM.

The problems with the left are truly indicative of a mental disorder. They have such guilt and self-loathing over the success of our nation. Their rush to elect a “black” President without investigating his qualifications was induced by the guilt that we once condoned slavery in this country. They “had” to show that they were not racists. The power brokers of the left play on this guilt at every turn to increase there hold.

They do seem to possess some kind of mental disorder, as you said “self-loathing” seems sadly accurate.
