Iran’s nuclear threat is escalating | William Hague | Comment is free | guardian.co.uk.

Interesting opinion piece by Britain’s Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs William Hague here.  He talks specifically about Iran’s desire to up its enriched uranium output (20% enriched uranium) three times over what it is now, and outlines the usage of that type of highly enriched uranium.  Needless to say, the uses are limited and none of them, besides nukes, align with Iran’s needs nor goals.

The article in itself is interesting, but the comments are the main reason I linked this piece.  Make sure you read at least some of them, and pay attention to the one’s most “recommended” by other commentors.  It is a very telling symbol of how far down the appeasement and “piece in our time” road the people in Britain have driven.

What do you make of this, Colin. I must say that i am confused by the lack of response by the US, the UK and, even Israel. I mean other than some political posturing and some useless sanctions, there doesn’t seem to be the level of concern that the Iranian threat deserves. hell, the Iranians are building silos here in Venezuela and all I hear is silence. Is it possible that the powers that be know they have embedded enough worms in in every thing that Iran has that if the fools push the button it will blow-up in their face? Anyway, the reaction of the “free world” seems very strange to me.

You can look at it 2 ways as far as I can see.

      1. We got plan within plans to deal with this, so acting like it ain’t a problem is a ruse.

      2. Or…we don’t have a problem with them nuking Israel. Considering we just added Israel to the Terror list, makes you wonder? Obviously, Israel ain’t gonna let itself get nuked, and depending on how you look at it, allowing Iran to progress the way they are is gonna result in Israel doing something about it. The world and our reaction to that will be telling. Either we were hoping they would “take care of the problem for us” all along and we will play the diplomatic game but secretly be proud of Israel…or the “unprovoked” attack by Israel on a sovereign nation will be the causus belli the world has been waiting for to finalize the “Israel Solution” once and for all.

Either way, the view from Israel can not be very rosey. =)

Nobody should be surprise about the rising nuclear threat of Iran, the real surprise is the naivety of the present administration on the subject. It is worse than just passive reaction. The present foreign policy of apologies, political correctness when it comes to foreign terrorist states and organizations, and open retreat in all active war fronts, do nothing but encourage Iran (among others) to believe that we are a done force.

We explain the geo-political strategic forces at play in our “There is No War In Afghanistan”, where we conclude that treating Afghanistan as a foreign strategy in a vacuum, instead as just a tactical front which is part of a more important overall global strategy specially related to Iran, is a grave mistake.

This is the same exact posture that the US was in during the final days of the Clinton administration, and we know what happened 6 months later. Do we REALLY believe that we can stop a concerted terrorist effort against the US mainland? Maybe it won’t be planes flying into buildings, but certainly dirty bombs or poisoned water supplies are not outside the realm of possibility. We have only been lucky that the third world terrorists can only think of making a political statement by trying to destroy a really big city like New York or Washington, DC. As soon as someone convinces them that the real terror would be in wiping out a relatively small town in the Midwest, WE will understand what real terrorism is. Do you realize what hysteria there would be in this country if no one could feel safe, even in Podunk, Kansas?

That’s a good point, many people think they are safe cause they live in a place that begs the question, “we are a small town, who would want to bomb us?”

Good to know you aren’t in charge of the terror plans. =)

Is it naivete or willful ignorance? I think it is the latter.
